Information Systems
The laboratory operates as part of an integrated hospital information system, UltiCare from Per Se Technologies. It provides rapid access to the patient’s clinical information across the entire continuum of care. Patient orders, scheduling, and results become part of an electronic medical record available throughout the Health System.
Test Availability and Reporting
Testing is performed continuously 24 hours a day with results available electronically upon completion. Outreach patient reports are printed on a Health System printer, faxed or delivered to the physician’s office. Stat reports are faxed to the office when testing is complete.
Test Menu & Volume
The laboratory performs five million tests a year. More than 1000 different tests or procedures are offered with 99 percent of all testing performed on-site.
Turnaround Time (TAT)
The laboratory has defined 45 minutes as the laboratory testing turnaround time for most frequently ordered STAT tests. Collection and transport times vary from 15 minutes for critical care units to two hours for physician offices.
Stat turnaround time is monitored weekly and reported monthly with targets met over 90 percent of the time.
